When I was told in September 2011 that I have this potentially “brain destroying” disease called Multiple Sclerosis, I had one of two options.

I could have decided to wait on the pavement for bus to hit or I could have shifted gears and give my Goliath a run for his money.  By grace alone I chose the latter option and I am reaping the rewards.

We do not always have control over what happens to us, but we do have control over our attitude and how we respond to life’s hairy curve balls.

I was devastated when it recently dawned on me that my 16 year long career as a financial adviser had come to an end because of something out of my control - a medical condition, called MS.

It is so easy to allow our careers, the work we do, to define us and when the security of a 9 to 5 job and the safety of a daily routine fall away, feel lost; without direction and purpose, maybe even hope ….

This is when you have to draw from your core strength and believes.

This is when you start telling yourself things like:

“I can do all things, even the difficult ones”.

“I am stronger than I think I am”.

“I have a life to live and I want to live it well”.

“I want my life to count for something”.

I want to make a difference; hence me using my story to show the world that what many may consider to be the end, can actually be the start of something brighter and better, but then you have to be prepared to search for the silver lining when it appears to be quite invisible.

We should not let our circumstances stand in the way of achieving our dreams.  Despite the challenges of life, we should live our best lives now.  It is after all the only one we have and tomorrow will take care of itself.

Over the next few weeks, I shall share a few personal silver linings with you.

Till next time, be happy and be blessed!
