Today, my son Ewan and Yvette, is going to say their “I do’s”.
The 10th of January 2015 is going to be a glorious day! God is good.
My son is getting married in a few hours’ time and very soon I am going to be a mother-in-law and I am going to love it.
But isn’t human nature a funny thing?
Why is it that when your children reach a significant milestone, it takes you back to some of your own?
Yes you have guessed it, I am thinking about my and Charl’s own “I do’s”.
When we made our promises to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part, we had no idea how big a promise we had made to one another.
Young and naïve, all I heard was: better, richer, health, love, cherish and I blossomed like only a young bride with a million stars in her eyes can do.
Mercifully, we have all of the above in abundance, but over our 27 years together, life also threw at us: worse, poorer, sickness, death
So if I may impart some motherly wisdom dear Ewan and Yvette, on your special day, it would be this:
During the harder times, my children, always remember the love you feel for one another right now and know that what you have is worth fighting for. YOU are both worth fighting for!
My dearest Ewan and beautiful Yvette, as you start your journey as husband and wife, may the butterflies of love always go crazy in your stomach and may the light in your eyes grow brighter each day.
Evie may your face always light up the way it does when you see my son, and Ewan may you always be the reason for the stars in her eyes.
May you, many years from now, look back on your wonderful journey and think:
I was and I always will be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in the good times and the bad times, in joy as well as in sorrow.
I have and always will support you in your goals.
I have and always will honour and respect you.
I have and will keep on laughing with you and even cry with you.
I have and I shall keep on cherishing you for as long as we both shall live.
I have and I will always love you unconditionally.
This is my prayer for you dearest Ewan and Yvette.
All my love
